The NFL owners can only give out so many slots to players, and teams, so they need to see if a team can offer more than someone else, or what other teams are willing to give for that slot.
The NFL and NBA players are doing a lot of competition, both domestically and internationally. If you're looking for an UFA SLOT, be sure to look for a new one today. Chances are you won't get it very often, so it is likely that you can wait for a while before you find it again.
